Liberty Interim City Manager: Texas First Group has supplied an interim city manager for the City of Liberty. It is a familiar name. Larry Shaw performed interim city manager duties nine years ago, before the city hired Gary Broz. Now Mr. Broz is retiring, and the municipal management search company Texas First has brought Larry Shaw back to Liberty. Mr. Shaw said he is still retired, but works from time to time to fill in the gap between the loss of one city manager and the hiring of new permanent city manager. He is expected to be on the job for the next several months while a permanent replacement is sought. There will be a come-and-go celebration for retiring Liberty City Manager Gary Broz on Wednesday, June 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Liberty Center inside City Hall. Everyone is invited to stop by and wish Gary well. His retirement will be short-lived as he has been hired as city manager for the City of Eagle Lake near his retirement home in Columbus.
Lady Panther Parade: The Liberty school district is planning a parade for the State Champion Lady Panthers softball team. Originally announced for late next week, the school district now says it is rescheduling that parade because of an unexpected conflict with the original date. Stay tune to KSHN Radio for full details on that parade for the Lady Panthers once the event has been reset by the district.
Gospel Artist Coming: Multi-time Dove Award winner and gospel music artist Michael English will be in Liberty on Saturday, June 16, for what’s being called the Liberty Worship Experience. For tickets, text the word ‘buy’ to 936-681-4234 or go to Facebook and search for Liberty Worship Experience. Those $10 tickets are also available at the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce. For information on becoming an event sponsor, call Joan Brohawn at 936-334-2756.
Correction: The Lady Panthers softball team was the first girls’ squad from LISD to win the state championship. The first boys’ team state title came in track and field in 1964 and again in ’65.
Obituaries: Joyce Dumas Givens, 82, of Liberty. Service 10 a.m. Wednesday in Cooke Memorial Cemetery (AFS).
