Dayton Logo Input: The city of Dayton is seeking community input on the creation of a new Dayton logo and slogan. Now through June 15 Dayton residents are being asked to submit their opinions on a color scheme and design for a new logo as well as a 2-4 four word slogan to describe Dayton and the Dayton community. A questionnaire asks if resident’s favor the current red, white and blue color scheme used in the Dayton city logo or if they would like to see different colors used. Questionnaires are available at Dayton City Hall’s Utility Billing Department, 117 Cook Street Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information, contact Kelli Buchanan at 936-258-2642.
Holiday Closings: Monday is Memorial Day, and the Liberty County Courthouse along with municipal offices in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will all be closed. Banks and post offices will also be closed Monday. Garbage Service will not run on Monday in Dayton, Cleveland and Liberty. Trash pick up will resume on the next regularly scheduled service day.
Memorial Day Service: The 39th Annual Memorial Day Service at Palms Memorial Park on State Highway 146 in Dayton is Monday at 10 a.m. Hosted by Palms Memorial Park and Sterling Funeral Home, this annual event pays tribute to military personnel who lost their lives in American wars. Following the service, there will be a luncheon and open house at the newly completed American Legion Hall just north of the cemetery. Folks are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
American Legion Fundraiser: The Fourth Annual Memorial Fundraiser is tomorrow starting a noon in the Oak’s Club on SH 146 in Dayton. It includes a bake sale, barbecue sandwich sale, pool tourney, raffles, plus live and silent auctions. To donate an item or for more information, call Jim Sterling at 936-336-5464 or Wade Rainey at 832-483-2789. Proceeds from the event benefit Dayton American Legion Post 512.
