Temperatures Rising: The days are getting hotter earlier than usual this year, and the National Weather Service is warning that precautions against heat illness need to be taken earlier than usual as well. Daytime temperatures in the mid-90’s combined with high relative humidity can produce heat index values in the triple digits. Remember, the heat index is a measure of how hot your body will feel outdoors during these hot, humid conditions. Experts say to drink plenty of water. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Children should never be left alone inside a hot vehicle, even for one minute. Also, check on elderly relatives and neighbors to make sure they are not suffering.
