LISD to Allow Armed Employees: The Liberty school board adopted what’s called guardian plan procedures that will allow specified district employees to carry a firearm on school property. That unanimous decision by LISD trustees followed a lengthy executive session during Tuesday night’s regular meeting. Brandon Davis serves as the Liberty ISD’s legal counsel. He declined comment on the specifics, citing safety concerns and the need for confidentiality when it comes to security planning. However, Mr. Davis said anyone who is authorized by the LISD board to carry a weapon must have a concealed handgun license as well as other designated training.
Magnolia Ridge Annexation: Liberty City Council met in special session Tuesday to hold two required public hearings on the planned voluntary annexation of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club. The city of Liberty is expected to take ownership of the club buildings and golf course on June 1. Liberty council held the two legally required public hearings on the annexation back-to-back. City Attorney Brandon Davis said entities are allowed to hold the public hearings on the same night, but they generally don’t. Holding the hearings on different days allows citizens a chance to be notified about the planned annexations so they can attend those public hearings. However, since the annexation of the 120 and one half acres of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club is voluntary, Liberty City Council decided to hold both public hearings Tuesday.
