Property Value Protests: The deadline for most property owners to file a written notice of protest of their appraised values is coming up next Tuesday, May 15. Please note - that is sixteen days earlier than past years because of a change enacted by the Texas Legislature. The actual protest will come later, but you must indicate your intention to protest by May 15 this year. That can be done in person, by mail or on the Central Appraisal District’s website, which can be accessed under the government tab at Also, property owners with damage from Hurricane Harvey - who have not yet reported that damage - should do so as soon as possible. Shred It: It’s time to get together sensitive documents and unwanted electronics for the city of Liberty’s document shredding and electronics recycling event this Saturday. It’s at the Liberty City Hall parking lot starting at 9 a.m. This is a free service to anyone, not just residents of Liberty. For information, call Liberty City Hall at 936-336-3684.
Rocket Launch: A big day is coming up for high school Aero Science Engineering Teams at 14 area schools this weekend. Anahuac High School is hosting the 2018 Rocket Challenge this Friday, Saturday and Sunday just north of Smith Point. Students from those schools will be launching rockets they designed and built beginning at 8 a.m. each day and continuing until dark. Masonic Open House: Liberty Masonic Lodge No. 48 will host an open house this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a chance to tour the lodge and learn about Freemasonry and the programs in which they are involved.
