Electrocution Death: A 48-year-old Montgomery County man was electrocuted Monday night in North Liberty County. Lead Liberty County Sheriff’s Investigator Darrell Elliott said his investigation indicates that Billy Keith Hilton, from the New Caney area, had been hired to run new wiring to the Food Mart in the 2100 block of U.S. 59. The detective said, at some point, Hilton evidently tried to wire into a high voltage transformer while standing on an aluminum ladder. Evidence indicates the electrician was knocked off the ladder into a secondary high voltage wire and then fell onto a fence below. Liberty County Pct. 6 JP Judge Ralph Fuller held an inquest and ordered an autopsy. Preliminary autopsy results show the death of Billy Keith Hilton was due to electrocution.
ESD #3 Election: Special notice to Westlake area voters in Liberty County. We have reported on the election asking voters in Emergency Services District #3 in the Westlake area for a tax increase. The Texas Secretary of State’s Office has ruled that tax increase election can proceed in spite of a major error on that election ballot. Liberty County Clerk Paulette Williams said the secretary of state ordered that mistake corrected on ballots used yesterday for the last day of early voting and on Election Day ballots this Saturday, May 5. She said the ballot originally asked voters to answer “yes” or “no” to an increase to what was referred to as the district’s sales and use tax. That was wrong. What ESD #3 officials meant to request was an increase to the ad valorem or property tax that funds the district. In fact, ESD #3 is asking for an increase of from 3 cents per $100 of assessed property value to a maximum of 10 cents per $100 of value. ESD #3 funds the Westlake Volunteer Fire Department.
Softball Schedule Change: Please take note of these changes to the Liberty girls’ softball best-of-three playoff series against Bridge City. Game 1 is Thursday at 5 p.m. in Crosby. However, Game 2 is now set for Friday at 5 p.m. at Port Neches-Groves. If needed, Game 3 will immediately follow Friday at PNG.
