Dayton Council: Monday’s Dayton City Council meeting featured a long discussion of revisions to the Standard Operating Procedures for the Dayton Community Center. Day-to-day operation of the center was recently turned over to the Dayton Chamber. On Monday, Dayton council heard a presentation by Dayton Chamber Director Paula Moorhaj on proposed changes, including student usage, fee schedules and clean-up procedures. During the discussion, it became clear that one annual event held at the Dayton Community Center may not be returning this year. That’s the Dayton Gun Show, which has been held at the community center for the past seven years in June. The gun show has been a fundraiser for the Dayton Volunteer Fire Department and Dayton Senior Center. However, Ms. Moorhaj said the gun show has never really been successful as a fundraiser and the expenses associated with it are significant.
KSHN Signal Interference: During the past couple of months, listeners to our station in the western area of Houston have complained about no longer being able to receive the KSHN signal. There are two entities currently operating in that area using our frequency at 99.9 FM. One is a Spanish language Christian radio station; the other is a Spanish language church. The small radio station is using what is called a translator in order to reach out further with their main signal. The church is operating a low power station. It’s not currently broadcasting. Even so, the low power FM transmitter is operating on 99.9 FM, and is covering our signal. KSHN has filed a complaint with the Federal Communications Commission. Most of our coverage is not affected by this issue, but some of our signal is badly impacted. We are doing our best to get it cleared up. If you have friends on the far western side of our signal who can no longer listen, please let them know we’re trying to get it corrected.
BJ Ford Car Show: The Third Annual BJ Ford Car Show is set for Saturday, April 28, at the dealership on Hwy. 90 in Liberty. Registration for the competitors begins at 9 with an awards presentation at 2:30. A $7 chopped barbecue, sausage wrap or hamburger lunch plate will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. It’s $25 to enter a vehicle, but that entry fee benefits the Liberty VFW. There is no charge to stop by and look at all the interesting vehicles. To register, go to
