Liberty Ordinances on Ballot: In addition to electing three members to Liberty City Council in the May 5th Election, voters in the city will also cast ballots in a Charter Amendment Election. There are seven proposed amendments to the city’s Home Rule Charter on the ballot. Most are intended to bring city ordinances more in line with state law. You can see the proposed amendments on the city’s website – link there from
IRS Tax Filing Deadline: Today is the deadline for taxpayers to file their 2017 tax returns with the IRS. Local Certified Public Accountant Byron Swaim said those racing to file a tax return by today’s deadline would be better off to instead file for an automatic extension – no reason is required. He said this is an extension to file, not an extension to pay. By filing for an extension, taxpayers can avoid the late-filing penalty. You can file for an extension using Form 4868. For those mailing in their returns, the last collection at the Liberty Post Office’s outside blue box is at 5:30 p.m. today. The last pickup at the Dayton Post Office is a bit later at 5:50 p.m. at the outside blue box.
Admin Professionals Luncheon: There is still time to get your tickets for the popular Liberty-Dayton Area of Chamber of Commerce’s Administrative Professionals Luncheon. It’s next week on Wednesday, April 25, in the Liberty Center at City Hall. It will once again be catered by Chef Amber Lawson of Magnolia Place Health Care. Those interested in donating gifts for the special guests are asked to contact the Chamber office. Reservations are required, and tickets are $15 each. Organizers say - if possible - please make your reservations by tomorrow. Call the Chamber at 936-336-5736 or 257-8926.
