Drowning: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the drowning death of a 4-year-child near Daisetta. Captain Ken DeFoor said it was around 11:34 a.m. Thursday when the mother of McKaiden Tanner went to check on the little boy who had been playing outside their home on CR 2017. When she could not find him, the mother - Mandy Hart - called 9-1-1. Hull-Daisetta firefighters and deputies responded. Firefighters waded into a man-made pond about 50 feet from the child’s home. There they found the toddler’s body submerged in the pond. An autopsy has been ordered, and the investigation in to the death of 4-year-old McKaiden Tanner is ongoing.
Liberty Jubilee: The 33rd Annual Liberty Jubilee celebration is today and tomorrow in downtown Liberty. Admission to the Jubilee grounds is free. Tonight’s Street Dance features both Southern Breeze and West of the Trinity Band. That’s on Travis Street from 8 p.m. till midnight. As always, there’s musical entertainment, arts and crafts booths, plus a kids’ play area with carnival rides and games. Unlimited ride armbands are $20 each day. New this year is Gator Country’s live wildlife shows at the Jubilee Pavilion. Tomorrow, the Liberty Jubilee offers offsite parking with free shuttle bus rides to and from the festival grounds every 30 minutes or so. Democrat Conventions: Those who voted in the Democrat primary on March 6 are invited to attend the Liberty County Democrat Party precinct and county conventions tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the County Court at Law courtroom on the second floor of the Liberty County Courthouse. In addition to discussing platform issues, those present will elect delegates to the Texas Democratic Party’s state convention. Those attending tomorrow should use the Travis Street entrance on the west side of the courthouse. Please be prompt for that 10 a.m. start because the courthouse will be locked up after those participating enter – the Liberty Jubilee will be under way.
