Rendition Clarification: We have reported property owners need to render their taxable property by a new deadline this year. That new state-mandated deadline is April 1, but here is an important clarification, since the 1st falls on a Sunday this year, the actual deadline to file property tax renditions will be Monday, April 2. To render is to list the taxable inventory, furniture, fixtures, machinery, equipment and other property a business owned or managed as of January 1, 2018. Forms have already been mailed out, and instructions were enclosed. For more info, call the Liberty County Central Appraisal District in Liberty at 936-336-5722 or link to their website from kshn.com.

Wages: The average weekly income in Liberty County is below the state and national averages. The U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics reports the average wage across America is $1,021 per week. That is from the latest reporting period, as of the third quarter 2017. Texans fair a little better, earning an average weekly paycheck of $1,032. However, here in Liberty County, the average weekly wage is reported at $815 – that’s 21 percent below the statewide figure. Regionally, the highest wage is in Harris County where folks make, on average, $1,247 weekly.

Liberty Jubilee: The 33rd Annual Liberty Jubilee is now just days away – it’s this Friday and Saturday in downtown Liberty. The yearly family fun festival provides lots of food, live entertainment, children’s activities and rides, arts and crafts galore plus much more. Don’t forget about the free Friday night street dance. Jubilee organizer Naomi Herrington said there are still a few Jubilee arts and crafts vendor booth spaces available. This year’s children’s play area includes carnival rides and games. Unlimited Ride Armbands are $20 each and available in advance at City Hall. Admission to the Jubilee grounds is free both days. For information, booth spaces or advance armbands, call Liberty City Hall at 936-336-3684.
