Thrif-Tee ATM Smash and Grab: Dayton police are investigating a Thursday morning break-in and theft at a well-known local food store. The suspects drove a van through the front windows of the Thrif-Tee Food Center on FM 1960 in Dayton, stealing the store’s ATM before fleeing. It was around 2 a.m. Thursday when Dayton police received a call about suspicious activity at M&M Auto Repair on Waco Street. As officers responded, they were made aware of a burglar alarm going off at Thrif-Tee. Police believe the suspects stole a van from M&M Auto by “hot wiring” the ignition. Then they apparently drove to Thrif-Tee Food Center and backed the van through the store’s front glass windows. Once inside, surveillance video shows several suspects dressed in masks and gloves stealing the ATM before speeding away in the stolen van. The entire effort likely took about 5 minutes. They are described as experienced crooks, probably from out of town. Dayton police have recovered the van.
Property Renditions: Liberty County Central Appraisal District officials are reminding property owners to render their taxable property by the new deadline of April 1 or file an extension to avoid costly penalties. Those who are not ready to file their rendition can file by April 1 a request for an automatic extension until May 1. For more information, call the Liberty County C.A.D. in Liberty at 936-336-5722.
