Primary Election Results: Liberty County voters went to the polls yesterday for the Republican and Democratic Party Primary contests. In the GOP race for Liberty County Judge unofficial results show Incumbent Liberty County Judge Jay Knight got 4119 votes. Former County Judge Craig McNair of Dayton has 1820 votes and Phil Fitzgerald of Moss Hill, another former County Judge earned 1692 votes. For Liberty County District Clerk, challenger Delia Sellers received 3983 votes while Incumbent Donna Brown got 3644 votes. Precinct #5 Justice of the Peace Wade Brown received 791 votes. His Republican opponent Tim Magee has 486 votes. Also, the Republican Primary candidates for Liberty County Clerk are Lee Haidusek Chambers with 4048 votes and Doyelle Turner 3090 votes. Lee Chambers will face Democrat Joe Robertson Jr. in the November General Election. Liberty Attorney Mark Beausoleil challenged Incumbent Chap Cain for the office of 253rd District Court Judge. The 253rd District includes Chambers County so voters there will also cast ballots in that race. Total unofficial results in Liberty County show Chap Cain with 4677 and Mark Beausoleil with 3106. Kenny Brand challenged Precinct #2 Liberty County Commissioner Incumbent Republican Greg Arthur. Voting totals show 1579 for Greg Arthur and 885 for Kenny Brand. Also Precinct #4 Justice of the Peace Larry Wilburn got 1387 votes and his GOP Primary opponent David Ripkowski garnered 1080 votes. Again, all votes are unofficial until canvassed.
Reinvestment Zone: Dayton City Council and Liberty County Commissioners will gather for a special joint meeting Thursday to discuss the creation of what is a called a Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone or TIRZ. These zones are used by municipalities to help fund future infrastructure improvement projects. That joint meeting is tomorrow at 6 p.m. in the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street.
