It’s Election Day: Today is Election Day for both the Republican and Democrat Primary contests. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voting is by precinct. For voting info, call the Liberty County Clerk’s office at 936-336-4670. Results from Liberty and Chambers counties will be reported on FM 99.9 as returns come in, beginning shortly after polls close this evening.
Sexual Harassment Investigation: In late January, the City of Dayton issued a press release saying city officials have launched an investigation into an employee complaint alleging sexual harassment and a hostile work environment there. The press release from City Attorney Brandon Davis said Dayton City Council takes these allegations seriously and has hired an outside law firm to investigate these claims and make recommendations regarding their findings. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon says the outside investigation into a sexual harassment complaint continues. He said the Houston based outside law firm hired by the city of Dayton to perform that investigation is being thorough and the earliest he expects to have some information from them is about three weeks.
City of Liberty & Magnolia Ridge: We reported Liberty City Council has approved the purchase of Magnolia Ridge Country Club. The deal still needs approval of the membership of the Liberty county club before it is final. The city intends to pay roughly $260,000 for the country club to go toward paying the club’s outstanding debts. That money will come from the Liberty Community Development Corporation. As part of the agreement, Magnolia Ridge Country Club will apply to be voluntarily annexed into Liberty’s city limits. Ross Norwood is president of the Magnolia Ridge Board of Directors. He said falling memberships and several other factors have made a municipal takeover of the 119-acre golf facility the best course of action. If approved, he said use of the golf course would be completely open, without any sort of membership requirement.
Time Change: Sunday at 2 a.m. marks the return to Daylight Savings Time. That’s when clocks will need to be set forward or ahead one hour. Better yet, just set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night. It’s also a good time to change batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
