Early Voting: Early voting ends today for the March 6 Primary Elections. In Liberty County, early voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. today at four locations: the Jack Hartel Community Building in Liberty; Cleveland Civic Center; Dayton Community Center; and at Hardin City Hall. Election Day is Tuesday, and all voting that day is by assigned precinct.
Courthouse Closed: The Liberty County Courthouse will be closed today in honor of Texas Independence Day. On the other hand, all municipal offices in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will remain open. In addition, banks and post offices will be open today. Garbage service will also run as scheduled today in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland.
Death Sentence: A Kountze man was sentenced to death Tuesday by a Hardin County jury in the 356th District Court of Judge Steven Thomas. Forty-year-old Jason Wade Delacerda was convicted last week of killing his then girlfriend’s 4-year-old daughter, Breonna Nichole Loftin, back in August 2011.
Ford Drive 4UR School: BJ Ford is hosting another “Ford Drive 4UR School” fund-raising event tomorrow for the seniors at both Liberty and Hardin high schools. It’s from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at BJ Ford on Highway 90 in Liberty. Ford Motor Company will donate $20 per test drive up to a combined total of $6,000. To test drive one of those new Ford vehicles, you must be a licensed driver and at least 18 years old. Also, Ford will make only one donation per household.
All-District 21-5A: Six Barbers Hill Lady Eagles and their coach have been named to the All District 21-5A Basketball Team. They are joined by four Dayton Lady Broncos. Barbers Hill Coach Tri Danley was honored by his peers as District Coach of the Year. Most Valuable Player honors for District 21-5A go to Barbers Hill Senior Charli Collier while Offensive Player is Dayton Senior Tayelin Grays.
Obituaries: Rev. Amos Mosley, 69, of Liberty. Service is 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Valley Baptist Church of Liberty (Proctor’s). Lee Etta Williams, 49, of Anahuac. Service is 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Anahuac (Proctor’s).
