Liberty City Council: Liberty City Council met Tuesday and unanimously approved action by the Liberty Community Development Corporation Board to buy Magnolia Ridge Country Club. The city will pay the club’s membership roughly $260,000 for the country club to go toward paying off the club’s outstanding debts. Then, Magnolia Ridge Country Club will apply to be voluntarily annexed into Liberty’s city limits. That only includes the 119 acre club, restaurant and golf course, not the surrounding neighborhood. The $260,000 purchase price of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club will come from the Liberty Community Development Corporation budget. Now the agreement goes before the membership of the Magnolia Ridge Country Club for approval. If that happens, ownership is expected to be transferred to the City of Liberty by June 1.
Citizen of the Year: One of the highlights of Tuesday night’s 42nd Annual Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet was recognition of the Citizen of the Year for both Dayton and Liberty. Dayton ISD Superintendent Dr. Jessica Johnson was honored as the 2017 Dayton Citizen of the Year while the Rev. Ted Smith, pastor of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, was named Liberty Citizen of the Year.

If the Bucs win, they advance to the Region 3 Final Saturday at 1 p.m., also in the Midway High School gymnasium.
