Fatality Accident: A Dayton man lost his life Saturday morning in a four-vehicle accident on S.H. 321 north of Dayton. Officials identified the deceased as 66-year-old Clyde Coxie. JP Pct. 4 Larry Wilburn held an inquest and ordered an autopsy. A 59-year-old Cleveland woman with the last name Page was transported to a Kingwood hospital, said to be in stable condition. Three other people refused medical treatment. The accident was investigated by the Department of Public Safety. It closed down traffic on Highway 321 for about 5 hours or more.
Primary Early Voting: Early voting continues today through this Friday for the March 6 Republican and Democrat Primary Elections. Here in Liberty County, early voting is 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. All early voting in Liberty County is at the following four locations: the Jack Hartel Community Building, 318 San Jacinto Street in Liberty; Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Avenue in Cleveland; Dayton Community Center at 801 South Cleveland Street in Dayton; and Hardin City Hall, 142 County Road 2010 in Hardin. Election Day is a week from tomorrow – that’s Tuesday, March 6. Voting on Election Day will be by assigned precinct. For voting information, call the Liberty County Clerk’s Office at 936-336-4670.
Chamber Banquet: Tickets are still available for tomorrow’s 42nd Annual Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet. Festivities begin at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Dayton Community Center. One of the highlights each year is the naming of a Citizen of the Year for both Dayton and Liberty. This year’s keynote speaker is Emmy winning journalist and news anchor Art Rascon with ABC Channel 13 News in Houston. Tickets are $35 each in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. The dinner will be catered by Ken Owens and includes fajitas with all the trimmings. For tickets, call the Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber in Liberty at 936-336-5736 or in Dayton at 936-257-8926.
Trinity Valley Relays: Both the Class 5A Barbers Hill boys and girls track teams captured the 67th Annual Trinity Valley Relays this past Friday at Liberty High School with more than 500 athletes competing. There were 15 different schools at the meet ranging from Class 3A to 6A.
