Tax Changes: New U. S. Federal Income Tax Laws have been widely reported on, and most know there are some significant changes. Local Financial Expert Byron Swaim said too many people may not know just how significant those changes are. The Liberty CPA said the biggest change is doubling the standard tax deduction to $24,000 for couples who file jointly, but that increased deduction comes with a cost. He said the change will be offset by the loss of personal exemptions that, in 2017, were valued at slightly more than $4,000 per taxpayer. For more info on 2018 tax law changes, talk to a financial advisor you trust. You can also go online to for information.
Trinity Valley Relays: The 67th Annual Trinity Valley Relays is Friday, Feb. 23, starting at 1:30 p.m. at the competition track behind Liberty High School. Liberty ISD Athletic Director Chad Taylor said, besides host LHS, there are 13 other schools participating in the relays. They still need volunteers to insure the meet runs smoothly and efficiently. Anyone interested in volunteering can call Coach Taylor at 936-336-6483, ext 5241.
Crown Prince Retiring: William Dickson, aka the Crown Prince, has been making people who love all kinds of music happy for decades on Saturday afternoons on KSHN Radio. Crown Prince will retire at the end of this month, due to health issues, and all his listeners and fans are invited to a retirement celebration in his honor on Thursday, February 22, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the radio station, 2099 Sam Houston. Crown Prince recalls he began broadcasting his specialty radio program in 1957 at the old KPXE a.m. – the forerunner to KSHN FM 99.9. While providing first blues then later Gospel, Country and Zydeco musical styles on Saturday afternoons, Coach William Dickson also worked as an educator for the Liberty school district for 44 years. In March, he will be 88 years of age.
