Liberty Annexation: Liberty City Council met Tuesday and voted to annex Phase 7 of the city’s ongoing annexation plan of property southeast along the Trinity River. The 1.66 square miles that comprise Phase 7 belong entirely to the U. S. Department of the Interior. The city’s attorney said that agency routinely does not respond to notifications of annexation by local entities and did not respond in this case. Phase 7 was initially said to be the next to last property annexation on the city’s current plan to ultimately bring the Moss Bluff gas storage facility into Liberty’s city limits. However, now council is expected to approve two more annexations before the plan is concluded. Liberty City Council set two required public hearings on Phase 8. That annexation is planned to be .27 square miles. The first public hearing on that annexation is Tuesday, March 20, at noon with the second on Tuesday, March 27, at 6 p.m. Both will be in council chambers at Liberty City Hall.
