Judge’s Race: The county judge’s race in the March 6 Republican Primary has taken an interesting turn with Challenger Craig McNair filing two complaints against County Judge Jay Knight. The Republican primary race features three men who have all held that position. Incumbent Judge Jay Knight of Dayton is challenged by two former county judges – Phil Fitzgerald of Moss Hill and Craig McNair of Dayton. In late January, Mr. McNair filed a complaint with the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office regarding the farm license plates that were on Jay Knight’s pickup truck, complaining he was also using the vehicle for personal use. Then late Monday, Craig McNair filed another complaint with both the GOP Party and Liberty County Attorney Matthew Poston challenging Knight’s eligibility to run and serve as county judge. Late yesterday, Poston said, after review, he determined the overwhelming evidence he found is that Jay Knight has been a resident of Liberty County for a period longer than necessary to occupy the office of county judge. Therefore, Mr. Poston said the county attorney’s office will take no action on Craig McNair’s complaint against County Judge Jay Knight. Liberty County GOP Party Chair Ryan Daniel forwarded the complaint filed with him to the state GOP headquarters. For full details, tune in to FM 99.9.
