UIL: The University Interscholastic League announced athletes realignments for school districts and there are some changes for some local schools for 2018-2020. The Dayton Broncos and Barbers Hill Eagles, are now in District 12-5A. That eight-team district also includes Crosby, Baytown Lee, Nederland, Port-Neches Groves, Santa Fe and Vidor. In Class 4A, the Liberty Panthers are now in District 10-4A along with Hardin-Jefferson, Hamshire-Fannett, West Orange-Stark and newly added Silsbee. The Cleveland Indians are part of an eight-team District 10-5A, facing Bryan Rudder, College Station A&M Consolidated, Huntsville, Katy Paetow, Montgomery, Montgomery Lake Creek and Rosenberg Lamar Consolidated. The Tarkington Longhorns are in the five-team District 9-4A along with Shepherd, Center, Huntington and Jasper. 3A Hardin remains in District 12-3A, with Anahuac and East Chambers, Buna, Kirbyville, Orangefield, Warren and Woodville. The Hull-Daisetta Bobcats change to District 12-2A with Deweyville, Groveton, San Augustine, Shelbyville and West Sabine.
Shooting: Liberty County Sheriff’s Lead Investigator Jeff Ashworth said according to witness statements, a verbal confrontation over a cell phone began to escalate, and it appeared that Shawn Linkinhoker became very aggressive, attacking William Snipes. That’s when the 37-year-old shot 22-year-old Linkinhoker one time in the head with a .40 caliber handgun. Justice of the Peace Pct 6 Ralph Fuller conducted the inquest and ordered an autopsy. Investigator Ashworth said that William Snipes was not arrested, but the case will be forwarded to the Liberty County District Attorney’s Office.
Voter Registration: Voter registration deadline for the March 6 Republican and Democrat Primary Elections is Monday. Liberty County Voter Registrar Ricky Brown said voter registration forms will be accepted at each of his three offices and by mail. For information on registering to vote, contact the Liberty County Voter Registrar’s office in Liberty at 936-336-4528.
