Fire: Liberty City Fire Chief Brian Hurst said Liberty Firefighters responded to a call for mutual aid from Moss Bluff Firefighters around 11 p.m. Tuesday. Chief Hurst said the home on CR #1335 was fully involved when his department arrived. The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature. The homeowner, Ms. Kelly Ashford was home at the time of the fire. Liberty Fire Department Chief Brian Hurst said his department, along with volunteers from Moss Bluff, Daisetta and Hardin fire departments worked for roughly four hours to extinguish the blaze. The 1900 sq ft brick home and a car port was destroyed. No injuries were reported.

Candidate Filings: There are now three candidates for three positions on the Dayton City Council in the May 5th City Elections. On Wednesday, Incumbent Dayton Council member Position #2 Sherial Lawson made her bid for re-election official. We have reported Position #3 Dayton Council member Alvin Burris has filed for what will be his first elected term on the Dayton Council. The third candidate to file for Dayton City Council is Wendall Null for Position #1. Incumbent Josh Townsend has not filed. The filing period continues through Friday February 16th.

Chili Cook-Off: The Liberty Rotary Club’s Chili Cook-Off and Craft Show is February 10 on the streets around Liberty City Hall. The event gives attendees a chance to taste a variety of homemade chili recipes and shop for arts and crafts while helping the Liberty Rotary Club raise funds for their many charitable efforts and local scholarships.
