Voter Registration: The Republican and Democrat Primary Elections are on March 6. Liberty County Voter Registrar Ricky Brown said, for those not already registered, the deadline to sign up in order to vote in that upcoming primary election is February 5. Voter registration forms are available at the Liberty County Tax Office. The main tax office is on the first floor - Travis Street side - of the Liberty County Courthouse. The County Annex in Dayton is on FM 1960 while the Cleveland Annex is located at 304 Campbell Street. All three offices are open from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and then from 1 to 4:30 weekdays. Each office is closed from 12:30 to 1 for lunch. For information on registering to vote, contact the Liberty County Voter Registrar’s office in Liberty at 936-336-4528.

Rain Totals: The City of Liberty just missed out on setting an all time yearly record high for rainfall accumulation during 2017. Despite the massive flooding from Hurricane Harvey, the year ended .93 inches below the record yearly high set two years ago – that’s just one inch below the record. For all of 2017, 93.86 inches of rain fell in the City of Liberty. The record high was set in 2015 when 94.79 inches were measured at the official National Weather Service gauge here at KSHN Radio. As we’ve previously reported - from Friday, August 25, through Wednesday, August 30 - Harvey dumped a total of 41.75 inches of rain on the City of Liberty.

Chili Cook-Off & Craft Show: The Liberty Rotary Club’s Chili Cook-Off and Craft Show is set for Saturday, February 10, on the streets around Liberty City Hall. The event gives attendees a chance to taste a variety of homemade chili and shop for arts and crafts while helping the Liberty Rotary Club raise funds for their many charitable efforts and local scholarships. Liberty Rotarian Tracy Williams invites individuals and groups to signup to participate in the chili cook-off. Now is also the time for vendors to reserve their booth spaces.
