DISD Grand Opening Celebrations: The community is invited to two Dayton school district grand opening celebrations on Saturday, January 20. The first is at the DISD Support Service Center, 702 South Cleveland Street. It starts with a ribbon cutting at 9:30 a.m. followed by tours and a reception from 10 to 11 that morning. Then, also January 20, there’s a grand opening at the Dayton ISD Sports Hall of Fame on the backside of the Nottingham Alternative Education Center, 302 South Cleveland Street. That ribbon cutting is at 11 a.m. followed by tours and a reception from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to both of those Dayton ISD celebration events.
Herd Evaluation Seminar: The Liberty County Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service will conduct a Herd Bull Evaluation and Selection Seminar next Tuesday, January 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the GH White Ranch headquarters in Tarkington. Liberty County Extension Agent Roy Flora said the seminar will feature herd bull experts performing live bull evaluations for breeding potential and fertility. Cost for the seminar is $10 and includes lunch. Those planning to attend are asked to call the extension service office ahead of time at 936-334-3230.
MLK Day Closings: Monday is the observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s birthday. The Liberty County Courthouse and all municipal offices in Liberty, Cleveland and Dayton will be closed Monday for the national holiday. Banks and post offices will also be closed Monday. However, garbage service will run as usual Monday in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland.
Livestock Show: There is a livestock show tomorrow to benefit a newly established scholarship fund. The L.J. Chachere Memorial Show is set for the Anson Rigby Memorial Arena in Dayton. Judging will be held for heifers, steers, bulls, goats and lambs. It’s open to anyone from anywhere. There is a $35 entry fee and a $5 showmanship fee. All proceeds benefit the newly established LJ Chachere Scholarship fund. For information, call Brad Chachere at 936-346-3266
Recovery Service: Anyone struggling to recover from addiction is invited to a special Eucharist service this Sunday at 1 p.m. in St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 2041 Trinity Street in Liberty.
