Hardin Armed Robbery: There has been yet another armed robbery in Liberty County – the latest occurred Monday night in Hardin. According to Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor, the Hardin Valero gas station and convenience store on S.H. 146 was robbed by two males around 9:45 p.m. Monday. He said sheriff’s investigators are reviewing video and meeting with other local law enforcement agencies that are also investigating recent robberies. Anyone with information is asked to call the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500.
Documentary: The community is invited to a free screening of a documentary film titled “Rosenwald” this Sunday from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The documentary highlights the remarkable story of a Jewish partnership with the African American communities to build Rosenwald schools. It will be shown at Nottingham Middle School, 302 South Cleveland Street in Dayton. After the screening, make plans to tour the Annie E. Colbert School Museum, 231 South Colbert. Scams: The start of a new year is a good time to take stock of the one just passed. For the Better Business Bureau of Southeast Texas, that means spotlighting the most frequent scams that circulated in our area during 2017. Liz Fredricks, president of the BBB of Southeast Texas, said the number one scam reported to the BBB in 2017 was the IRS collection scam where crooks call and try to get folks to pay them by pretending to be with the IRS. LSCO Top Employee: Investigator Josh Cummins has been honored as the Liberty County Sheriff’s Employee of the Month. In addition to investigating felony crimes, he is a certified instructor in defensive tactics, firearms, baton training and less than lethal weapons as well as a SWAT team member. Sheriff Bobby Rader encourages the public to join him in saluting Investigator Cummins for his service and a job well done.
