Another Horse Shot: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department Captain Ken DeFoor said a Palomino Quarter Horse was found shot at the Brock Ranch, located on County Road #184 in Raywood around 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The horse was shot in the back of the head and is dead. Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said the actual shooting is believed to have occurred late Friday or early Saturday. A similar incident occurred back on November 8th when a pet pony named “Chicken Nugget” was found dead on the Brett Ranch, about 8 miles from this shooting. Captain DeFoor said it is too early to say if the two incidents are related. Anyone with information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Dept. 936-336-4500.
Cold: The National Weather Service is predicting widespread freezing temperatures may develop for most of the area Sunday night and Monday night. While a prolonged hard freeze is not expected to occur in our area, some cold weather precautions are recommended. Exposed water pipes should be covered to protect against freezing. That goes for plants susceptible to prolonged cold temperatures as well. Ensure outside pets have protection against freezing temperatures and extra food and water to help them keep warm.
Carjacking: The Liberty Police Department recently addressed the crime of stealing a car by force or carjacking. Liberty police say preventative actions include approaching any car with the key in hand. Look around, inside, and underneath the car before getting in. Keep car doors locked and windows rolled up at all times while driving. Be especially alert at intersections, gas stations, ATMs, shopping malls, and convenience and grocery stores. All are windows of opportunity for carjackers. If you find yourself in this terrifying situation police urge you to give up your car - your life is worth more.
Closed for New Year: The Liberty County Courthouse and all municipal offices in Liberty, Cleveland and Dayton will be closed Monday for the New Year’s holiday. Garbage service will not run on Monday in Liberty, Dayton or Cleveland.
Obituaries: Evelyn Sapp Savoy, 94. Memorial visitation Saturday 2-5 p.m. at Pace Stancil Funeral Home in Dayton.
