Dayton Council: Dayton City Council voted Monday to hire a company called TXP Economic and Public Policy Consultants for advice in creating future economic strategies. Those services can include the creation of what are called Tax Increment Reinvestment Zones. These zones are used by municipalities to help fund future infrastructure improvement projects. Dayton Council also voted to hire the Houston based engineering and consulting firm Freese–Nichols to undertake a utility rate study. Dayton City Manager Theo Melancon said, with new developments of all kinds on the horizon, the city could use some expert help in determining how Dayton’s water and wastewater rates should evolve for those expected residential, commercial and industrial developments.
DISD Financial Rating: During Tuesday night’s meeting, Dayton school trustees reviewed the district’s score from the Texas Education Agency on the state’s financial integrity rating system. Commonly referred to as “Schools FIRST”, this state scoring system is designed to monitor the quality of the financial management of each school district across Texas. Out of a total of 100 possible points Dayton ISD scored 98, giving them the high grade of “A”. That score is based on the district’s 2015-2016 fiscal year data.
Blood Drives: At this time of gift giving, why not give the gift of life by donating blood? There are two opportunities Saturday. One LifeShare blood drive is in Dayton from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brookshrie Brothers on U.S. 90. The other is in Liberty from 2:30 till 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Wal-Mart on the 146 bypass.
Stocking Stuffers: Looking for a stocking stuffer or gift idea for Christmas? The Liberty-Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce has books from eight different local authors or organizations plus a music CD for sale at their office in Liberty.
