Ambulance Service: Liberty County commissioners approved a 5-year contract with Liberty County EMS for ambulance service at last week’s meeting. Liberty County Judge Jay Knight said the contract is for about $330,000 annually. That is an increase over the county’s current $255,000 yearly cost for ambulance service. Judge Knight and the commissioners felt knowing what they would be paying for ambulance service during the five years was preferable than waiting to see what costs in the marketplace would be from year to year.
Holiday Hours: Christmas is next Monday, and the holiday schedule for local city and county offices will vary some. The Liberty County Courthouse, the city of Liberty and the city of Cleveland offices will be closed on Christmas Day and the following day, Tuesday, Dec. 26. Those offices will reopen for regular hours on Wednesday, Dec. 27. However, the city of Dayton will close this Friday and remain closed next Monday for Christmas. Dayton City Hall will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 26. Banks and post offices will be closed on Christmas Day only – that’s next Monday. Garbage service in Liberty, Dayton and Cleveland will not run on Christmas, but regular trash pickup service in those towns will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 26.
TVE Scholarships: Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo is still accepting 2018 scholarship applications; however, the deadline to file is tomorrow. Students who reside or attend any school in Liberty or Chambers counties and who will be graduating by the end of the Spring semester are eligible. Applicants must have participated in a TVE competition for at least one year. Applications and rules are available at the TVE Fair office on FM 563 or online at
