Fatality Accident: A 26-year-old Dayton woman died Thursday when she was struck by a pickup truck on S.H. 321 near Dayton. DPS Sgt. Eric Burse identified the woman as Kami Kabernick. Sgt. Burse said she walked into the path of a northbound truck driven by 60-year-old Alvin Baker of Dayton. Kabernick was pronounced dead at the scene, and an autopsy was ordered. No other injuries were reported. Thursday’s accident remains under investigation by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Cold Case Reward: Texas Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s help solving the 1995 murder of a Liberty County sheriff’s deputy who was shot and killed in southwest Houston. Liberty County Deputy Wilburn Junior “Will” Agy was killed on April 5, 1995, while working an off duty security job near Fondren Road and Sanford Road in Houston. Now, the Texas Crime Stoppers Fallen Hero Reward program has teamed up with Crime Stoppers in Houston, The 100 Club of Houston and the local Multi-County Crime Stoppers group to offer a reward for information that solves this case of up to $35,000. Tips can be reported by phone to the state Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-8477 or the local Multi-County hotline at 1-800-392-7867. You can also text a tip to the number 274637 – just type the letters DPS followed by your tip. The fourth way to report information is online at All tipsters will remain anonymous.
Tarkington Superintendent: Tarkington school district trustees have named a lone finalist to replace retiring Superintendent Kevin Weldon. The lone finalist is Tarkington native, Dr. Marc A. Keith. He graduated from Tarkington High School back in 1978. That decision to hire him came at the Tarkington school board’s meeting on Tuesday. Now, the district must wait the state-required 21-day period before the decision can be finalized.
Rotary Bells: Liberty Rotary Club is still selling large concrete bells for $300. All proceeds are split between the Liberty Bell Tower and the Rotary PolioPlus program. To order your bell, call Rotarian Cody Abshier at 409-267-1730. The 300-pound bells will be delivered when they arrive here from the factory.
