Candidate Filings: Two Democrat candidates have filed to run in the March 6, 2018, Party Primary Election. Longtime Pct. 2 JP Ronnie Davis has filed for a new term. Also filing for reelection is Democrat Party Chair Michael Mark. On the Republican side, 13 candidates have signed up to run. Those filing for reelection include Justice of the Peace Pct. 1 Stephen Hebert, JP Pct 4 Larry Wilburn, JP Pct 6 Ralph Fuller and JP Pct 5 Wade Brown. Also filing for JP Pct 5 is challenger Tim Magee. Other Republicans filing for reelection are Liberty County Judge Jay Knight as well as Commissioner Pct 2 Greg Arthur and Commissioner Pct 4 Leon Wilson. Filing as Republicans for district clerk are incumbent Donna Brown and challenger Delia Sellers. She is the former county clerk. County Court at Law Judge Tommy Chambers also filed for another term. Two newcomers have filed for county clerk to replace the retiring Paulette Williams. Those GOP candidates for county clerk are Lee Haidusek Chambers, the wife of Judge Chambers, and Doyelle Turner, an employee in the county clerk’s office.
Commissioners: Liberty County Commissioners held a lengthy executive session yesterday to discuss three agenda items: a new contract for Liberty County Emergency Medical Services; payment of $28,000 to Liberty County EMS for services during Hurricane Harvey; and updates on a civil suit filed against former Sheriff Henry Patterson and Liberty County by former sheriff’s deputy Jeremy Marcantell. Following the executive session, commissioners approved County Attorney Matthew Poston to negotiate with Liberty County EMS for a new contract and took no action on the other two agenda items.
Panther Tickets: Tickets are on sale for the Liberty’ Bi-District football playoff game. The Panthers face Shepherd Friday at 7:30 p.m. from a neutral site – Splendora High School. General admission and student tickets are on sale at the administration building on Grand Avenue. Student tickets are available at the high school, middle school and Liberty Elementary School. Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students. All tickets at the gate Friday will be $5.
