Liberty Wastewater: We have reported Liberty City Council authorized City Manager Gary Broz to use roughly $1.2 million to make repairs to the Liberty wastewater treatment plant. During the worst of the Hurricane Harvey related flooding, the wastewater treatment plant in Liberty shut down, though lift stations kept functioning and wastewater kept moving. However, there was no way to chemically treat the wastewater during that three-day period. Mr. Broz said the plant is in operation, once again, and the city’s waste is being treated, but there is still work left to do. The wastewater plant project involves replacing or repairing all of the pumps, blowers, switches and other electrical components at the facility.
Well Testing: For those who are concerned that Hurricane Harvey flood waters may have contaminated their private water wells, the Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service is offering free water well testing. Kits can be picked up today during business hours at the extension office at 501 Palmer Avenue in Liberty or 295 White Memorial Park Drive in Anahuac. Each test kit comes with instructions on properly taking a water well sample and then returning it to the extension service office tomorrow between 8 and 11 a.m. For information, call the extensive service office in Liberty County at 936-334-3230 or Chambers County at 409-374-2123. These tests are free.
