Party Primaries: Candidate filing for the March 6, 2018 Party Primary Election in Liberty County starts this Saturday and continues through Dec. 11. Those offices on the ballot include the 253rd and 75th district judges, county judge and county court-at law judge. Liberty County commissioners #2 and #4 each have expiring terms as do the Liberty County clerk, treasurer and district clerk. All six county justices of the peace will also be on the March 6 Primary Election ballot. With one exception, all of the current holders of those offices have told KSHN reporters they will run again. All are Republicans. The sole exception is Liberty County Clerk Paulette Williams, who told us months ago she will not seek reelection in 2018. For information on filing to run as a Republican, call GOP Chair Ryan Daniel at 281-433-5205. For details on running in the Democrat Party Primary, contact Party Chair Michael Mark at 936-776-8637.

Election Results: Voters across Texas went to the polls Tuesday and approved all seven of the proposed Texas Constitutional Amendments that were on the ballot. Here in Liberty County, voting mirrored those statewide results. The Liberty County Clerk’s Office reports there are 41,902 registered voters in the county, but just 926 of those Liberty County residents cast a ballot in the state’s constitutional amendment election. Locally, the seven propositions were approved with a low of 56.7 percent saying yes to a high of 87.76 percent in favor.
