TxDOT Debris Removal: The Beaumont District of TxDOT will begin its final round of storm debris pick up tomorrow in six counties, including Liberty and Chambers counties. Residents living along U.S. Highways, state highways or farm-to-market roads should place any debris generated by Hurricane Harvey along the state right-of-way for pickup. According to TxDOT, debris should be divided into five piles: vegetative items, construction debris, appliances, other electronic equipment and hazardous waste. Only storm debris separated properly and stacked along the right-of-way will be eligible for collection.
Panther Rushing Record: The Liberty Panthers football team has a new single-game rushing record. On Friday, Liberty Running Back/Quarterback J.J. Slack ran for 335 yards on 18 carries during a 52-38 win over the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks. That eclipses the previous record of 325 yards on 19 carries set by former Panther running back Reggie White. Of note, that also came against Hardin-Jefferson back in 1995. J.J. is the son of Liberty coaches Karen and Joe Slack.

Reserve Deputies: Liberty County Sherriff Bobby Rader swore in 13 new reserve deputies last week from the recent police academy put on by the sheriff’s department. Captain Ken DeFoor said these new reserve officers will primarily support the patrol division through volunteer service. Sheriff Rader now has a total of 20 licensed peace officers volunteering their time to serve the people of Liberty County. In addition, the sheriff has 63 full-time licensed peace officers on staff.
