Social Security: The Social Security Administration has announced a cost of living benefit increase for 2018. The increase could best be called “moderate” since those receiving SS benefits will get a 2% increase starting in January. That’s about another $27 a month for most recipients. However, many of those on Medicare could also see an increase in premiums, but there has been no announcement on that so far. Veterans: Once again this year, Liberty High School students and staff will honor military veterans in our community for Veteran’s Day with breakfast and a special program. This year’s program will be on Friday, Nov. 10. All current and former service men and women plus a guest are invited to breakfast at 7:30 a.m. followed by a program in their honor at 8:30 a.m. For more information, call Liberty High School at 936-336-6483.
Hardin Band: The Hardin Hornet Band earned a first division rating at the U.I.L. Region 10 Marching Contest last Saturday. Now, the Hornets will compete in the U.I.L. Area ‘C’ Marching Contest tomorrow. The Hornets take the field at 3 p.m. at SFA in Nacogdoches. Ten bands will advance to the finals tomorrow evening with four of those moving on to the state competition.
Football: The Liberty Panthers football team is on the road tonight in Sour Lake, taking on the Hardin-Jefferson Hawks. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. Hardin travels to Hitchcock while Hull-Daisetta is at Sabine Pass. Both games also start at 7:30 tonight. Barbers Hill is home facing New Caney at 7. Remember, no split channel on FM 99.9 tonight for the Liberty game since Dayton played yesterday.
