Hampton Sentenced: 56-year-old John Harvey Hampton was sentenced to 20 years in prison yesterday for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. He was also fined $10,000. That is the maximum sentence under enhancement options based on the defendant’s prior felony convictions. John Hampton was found not-guilty on a separate charge of Assault on a Public Official. With what’s called good time, the convicted felon must serve a minimum of 25 percent of that sentence.
Valley Players: The Valley Players will present some good scary fun for Halloween this Saturday and Sunday. The goose-bumpy comedy double feature is the “Headless Horseman Rides Again” and “Seven Brides for Dracula”. Performances are 7 p.m. Saturday and again at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Humphreys-Burson Theater in Liberty. For tickets call 936-336-6699.
Dayton Marching Band: Dayton High School Marching Band Director Kevin Heckaman said the Bronco band captured a first division rating for the fourth year in a row at the Region 10 U.I.L. marching contest held at Port Neches-Groves High School last Saturday. Now, the DHS band competes in the Area E marching contest. The Broncos marching band is set to take the field at noon this Saturday at the Galena Park ISD Stadium, 15025 Wallisville Road in Houston.
Dayton Football: The Dayton Broncos football team is on the road tonight for their only Thursday night contest of the season. The 2-5 Broncos face the 2-3 Kingwood Park Mustangs. Kickoff is today at 7 p.m. in Turner Stadium of Humble. Since Liberty plays tomorrow night, that means no split channel here on FM 99.9. Correction: Frank Ellis Moss, 29, of Dayton was sentenced to 12 years (not 15) for Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant.
