Early Voting: Early voting is under way for the Nov. 7 Texas Constitutional Amendment Election. There are seven proposed amendments on the ballot. Here in Liberty County voting is weekdays through next Thursday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Then, there is extended hour voting on Friday, Nov. 3, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Early voting is at four locations in Liberty County – the Jack Hartel Community Building on San Jacinto at Sam Houston streets in Liberty as well as the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. Early voting is also at Hardin City Hall on C.R. 2010 and Cleveland Civic Center, 210 Peach Avenue. Voter ID is required to cast a ballot. Registered voters without an ID can fill out an affidavit.
SBA Loan: The U. S. Small Business Administration offers long-term low interest loans for those recovering from Hurricane Harvey. SBA loans are available up to $200,000 for eligible homeowners and up to $2 million for eligible businesses. The SBA application deadline – like the FEMA registration deadline – has been extended until Nov. 24. To apply for an SBA Loan, visit the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Dayton Community Center. You can also call the SBA at 800-659-2955.
LHS Band: The Liberty Panther Band earned a first division rating at the U.I.L. Region 10 Marching Contest on Saturday. This is the fifth year in a row the LHS band has earned the highest rating at the regional contest. Because this is the off year and there isn’t a state contest for Class 4A this year, it is the farthest they can advance.
Pumpkin Bash: It’s called the Great Pumpkin Bash. Each year around Halloween, Liberty Municipal Library holds a pumpkin decorating contest. Everyone is invited to decorate a pumpkin – real or plastic – but do not carve it up. Then, take it to the library by next Monday, Oct. 30. The annual celebration and awards party is on Halloween – that’s Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 5 p.m. The theme is once again “storybook characters”. There will be a limited number of pumpkins available at the library starting tomorrow while supplies last. For info, call 936-336-8901.
Obituaries: Beatrice Dorman Palmer, 82, of Daisetta. Service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at Oakdale Cemetery in Daisetta (AFS).
