TVE Opening Day: Today is a busy day at the 109th TVE Fair and Rodeo. In addition to this morning’s Kiddie Trailride and Opening Day Parade, activities include the youth livestock show, PRCA Extreme Bull Riding and tonight’s free dance featuring Jeff Woolsey. The carnival spins into action at 11 a.m. and it continues until midnight. At the carnival, $35 armbands are good for all rides, as often as you want to ride, tonight from 6 till closing. FEMA Registration Deadline Nears: The FEMA Disaster Recovery Center at the Dayton Community Center is open through this Sunday. Residents with questions concerning their FEMA registration can visit face-to-face with a FEMA representative as well as other federal and state officials. The Disaster Recovery Center is open today through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at the Dayton Community Center, 801 South Cleveland Street. This important note, FEMA encourages those impacted by Hurricane Harvey to register for federal disaster assistance before next Tuesday’s deadline – that’s October 24. Registration can be done online at or by phone at 1-800-621-3362. Officials say registering online can be done without the waits that may be experienced on the telephone.
DISD Hall of Fame: The Dayton Independent School District’s Athletic Hall of Fame will induct new members Friday at 4 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. They will recognize five athletes, a booster and girls’ basketball team. Everyone is invited.
Fish Fry: Dayton Rotary Club’s fish fry fundraiser is this Friday. Proceeds go toward the club’s scholarship fund for graduating Bronco seniors. The Rotarians will be serving fried catfish, French fries, cole slaw and a beverage from 4 to 7 p.m., or until sold out, at Woodrow Wilson Junior High School on SH 146. Tickets are $12 each. Take outs will be available. Get your ticket from any Dayton Rotarian or just show up at the door.
