Fatality Accident: A 34-year-old Houston man died late Friday night in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. 90 at the Trinity River Bridge. He is identified as Charles Mayon, with family in Dayton. That accident also caused 12 injuries and closed down both the east and westbound lanes of Highway 90 for about four hours. Six people were taken to area hospitals - five to Houston Methodist San Jacinto in Baytown and one to Liberty-Dayton Regional Medical Center. None of those injuries was considered life threatening. The rest of the injured were treated at the wreck scene by EMS personnel and released.
Beef Symposium: Texas A&M AgriLife Extension will host its free Annual Southeast Texas Beef Symposium and Trade Show Thursday, Oct. 26, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Winnie Stowell Park in Chambers County. The meeting’s focus is recovery from Hurricane Harvey. RSVP by calling 936-334-3230.
Bikes for Christmas: Liberty County Bikes for Christmas will hold a garage sale this Saturday starting at 8 a.m. in the Prosperity Bank parking lot on Hwy. 90 in Dayton. The mission of Liberty County Bikes for Christmas is twofold - to assist county residents year round who experience unexpected tragedies and losses and to insure all Liberty County children feel the joy of Christmas. Football Results: The now 5-1 Liberty Panthers kicked off District 12-4A action with a victory Friday night, defeating Orangefield 24-16. As for Dayton, the Broncos fell to 2-4 on the year with a loss to Porter. Final score was the Spartans 42, the Broncos 36. Hardin and Hull-Daisetta both kicked off district action Friday night with losses. It was La Marque over Hardin 33-22 while Evadale topped Hull-Daisetta 47-6. In other action, Barbers Hill defeated Splendora 34-10. Bridge City bested Cleveland 34-22 while Shepherd shutout Tarkington 46-0. Hitchcock squeaked by Anahuac 12-8. East Chambers blanked Hempstead 19-0, and Centerville dominated West Hardin 50-0.
