Hispanic Heritage Day: There will be a new addition to this year’s Trinity Valley Exposition Fair and Rodeo. Hispanic Heritage Day, sponsored by Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant, will be on Sunday, October 22, at the TVE Fairgrounds. In addition to rodeo events, there will be lots of Tejano music. Best-selling recording artists “La Maquinaria Nortena” will take the stage around 9:45 p.m. a week from this Sunday – again that’s October 22. Gates will open at 1 p.m. at the fairgrounds, one mile south of U. S. 90 in Liberty on FM 563. Tickets are $35 in advance, $40 at the gate. Tickets for TVE Hispanic Heritage Day are available at Los Compadres in Dayton, Hardin and Huffman as well as Casa Del Pueblo in Liberty and Agave Mexican Restaurant in Cleveland.
Wildlife Management: The Liberty County Master Gardener Association will host a Wildlife Management Tax Valuation Program Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Jack Hartel Building on San Jacinto in Liberty. Organizers say this free seminar is open to anyone interested in learning more about the state’s wildlife management program for landowners. For info, call Liberty County AgriLife Extension Agent Roy Flora at 936-334-3230.
Baby Parade: Entries are still being accepted for the historic 2017 Trinity Valley Exposition Baby Parade, but time is quickly running out to sign up. That longest-running event of its type in the U.S. is Saturday at 10 a.m. in downtown Liberty. This year’s theme is “Games People Play”. Entry fee is $20. The deadline to signup is Thursday. For more details, call Brittany at 281-658-7932 or Jennifer at 713-540-3708. KSHN radio will broadcast the Baby Parade live, so join us if you can’t be there.
Employee of the Month: Captain Billy Knox has been honored as the Liberty County Sheriff’s Office Employee of the Month. Captain Knox heads up the sheriff’s Criminal Investigative Division and SWAT team. During the recent flooding from Hurricane Harvey, he headed up the department’s search and rescue. Sheriff Bobby Rader encourages the public to join him in saluting Captain Billy Knox for his service and a job well done.
Obituaries: Tommy White, 64, of Dayton. Service 2 p.m. Thursday at Pace-Stancil in Dayton.
