Open House: The Dayton City Council met Monday night and set October 16th as the date for a ribbon cutting and open house at the city’s new Police, Fire and Municipal Court Buildings. As with so many other planned events in this area, the initial ribbon cutting scheduled for the new Dayton Public Safety Facility on Hwy 321 was rained out by Hurricane Harvey. The rescheduled date of the event is Monday October 16th starting at 5:45 p.m. An open house and chance to tour the buildings will come afterward, lasting until around 7:30 p.m.
D-SNAP: Liberty County residents can still apply for the Texas D-SNAP Program which provides short term food benefits for eligible families recovering from Hurricane Harvey. The application period is today through this Sunday October 8th. All D-SNAP applications are in person at the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center located in the Dayton Community Center. Apply for D-SNAP benefits between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. today through Sunday. Today is for those whose last names starts with the letters N through R and Friday is for those whose last name starts with S through Z. An important note, anyone can apply in person Saturday and Sunday. Those hours for Saturday and Sunday are, once again, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you have questions, call the Dayton Community Center at 936-258-6630. The Dayton Community Center is 801 S. Cleveland Street.
