Flood Recovery: The City of Liberty continues the recovery process after suffering flooding from Hurricane Harvey. City Manager Gary Broz said there is a lot of positive information to report on the recovery front, including the status of the city’s wastewater treatment plant. We reported the City of Liberty Wastewater plant suffered a complete failure of automated systems due to high flood water, forcing crews to operate the plant manually. City Manager Gary Broz said the wastewater plant is functional though there is still some work to be done.

D-SNAP: The Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or D-SNAP provides short term food benefits for eligible families recovering from Hurricane Harvey. The application period is through Sunday October 8th. All D-SNAP applications are in person at the FEMA Disaster Recovery Center located in the Dayton Community Center. Apply for D-SNAP benefits between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. daily today through Sunday at the Dayton Community Center. Applicants are asked to apply in alphabetical order by the first letter of their last name. Last names starting with the letters A-C were Monday. Today is for letters D-H, Wednesday is for letters I-M, Thursday is for N-R and Friday is for those whose last name starts with S-Z. Saturday and Sunday is for anyone to sign up regardless of last name. If you have questions about when or how to apply for D-SNAP, call 936-258-6630. The center is 801 S. Cleveland Street.

Coffee with a Cop: The Liberty Police Department will hold a community event they call “Coffee with a Cop” tomorrow. It’s an opportunity for citizens to meet informally with local police officers from 9 to 11 a.m. in the Generations Coffee and Sandwich Shop on Sam Houston Street. Coffee with a Cop is free to the public. That’s Coffee with a Cop tomorrow from 9 to 11 a.m. at Generations Coffee and Sandwich Shop, 1812 Sam Houston in Liberty – that’s in the Liberty Opry building.
