Child Shot: An 8-year-old boy, Abel Rincon, died late Saturday after being shot in the chest. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said that shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday on County Road 3560 in the Plum Grove area of northwest Liberty County. The 8-year-old boy was reportedly at his home with his father, 35-year-old Aaron Rincon, and another juvenile. The trio was said to be shooting tin cans in the yard with an old .22 caliber rifle that didn’t have a trigger guard. Mr. Rincon told investigators that the rifle was being handled by someone and he had turned his back. That’s when he reports hearing a gunshot. Mr. Rincon placed his son in a vehicle and was driving toward the hospital when he came across a deputy and stopped. Deputy Ben Garcia administered CPR and called for LifeFlight. The air ambulance transported the little boy to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he died. Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said the investigation into Saturday night’s shooting in the Plum Grove area is ongoing and an autopsy has been ordered. At this time, no charges have been filed. Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 936-336-4500.
