FEMA Center: FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers have opened in both Anahuac and Sour Lake. The Disaster Recovery Center in Anahuac is at the American Legion Hall, 1704 South Main Street. The Sour Lake DRC is at the Pinewood Volunteer Fire Department, 333 Commercial Drive. Both of those FEMA Disaster Recovery Centers are open Mon. through Sat. from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on Sun. from noon to 5 p.m. FEMA encourages those impacted by Hurricane Harvey to register for federal disaster assistance before the October 24th deadline. That can be done online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by phone at 1-800-621-3362. Officials say registering online can be done without the waits that may be experienced on the telephone.

TxDOT Debris Removal: TxDOT is picking up storm debris in Liberty and Chambers counties. Residents living along U.S. highways, state highways or farm-to-market roads should place any debris generated by Tropical Storm Harvey along the state right-of-way for pickup. TxDOT officials emphasize this is for storm debris only, not normal household trash. There should be five different piles for storm related debris. The first pile is for vegetative items. Then make another pile with construction and demolition debris, including furniture. A third pile of storm debris for TxDOT pickup should include appliances and white goods while the fourth pile should be for other electronic equipment. Then, a fifth pile is for any household hazardous waste, roof shingles or tires resulting from the storm.
