Life Sentence: Joseph Arthur Aldridge, 34, has been sentenced to life in prison for an aggravated robbery at the Panther Stop convenience store on Highway 90 in Liberty back on December 9, 2012. Back then, Liberty police said a robber had entered the store demanding money and clubbed the business’ owner with a tire iron. Jury selection was Monday, and testimony began Tuesday. Then yesterday, the jury took less than an hour to find the defendant guilty. He has prior convictions for aggravated robbery and assault on a jailer. 75th District Judge Mark Morefield sentenced 34-year-old Joseph Arthur Aldridge to life in prison. He will be eligible for parole after 30 years.

Disaster Declaration: Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has extended the State Disaster Declaration for Texas counties affected by Hurricane Harvey. All Texas counties declared disaster areas, including Liberty and Chambers counties, will continue to be eligible for assistance as residents recover and rebuild following the damaging storm. State disaster declarations must be renewed every 30 days for assistance to remain available.

Hardin QB Recognized: Hardin Hornet Quarterback Ryan Snell has been named the VYPE Southeast Texas Player of the Week for his performance in last Friday’s contest against New Waverly. Although the Hornets lost that game in overtime, Ryan Snell threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns.

Football: Both Dayton and Hardin will celebrate Homecoming tonight. Also in action are the Liberty and Barbers Hill football teams. The Hull-Daisetta Bobcats have an open week. Dayton hosts Humble for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Liberty is home versus Woodville at 7:30. Hardin faces Warren for Homecoming, also at 7:30. Barbers Hill takes on Kingwood Park at Turner Stadium in Humble.
