Mosquito Spray: Liberty County begins aerial mosquito spraying tonight. Liberty County Emergency Management Coordinator Tom Branch said the spraying will be done with Military Type C-130 aircraft, beginning at dusk each night over the course of roughly six days. Mosquito spraying will start in South Liberty County, and planes will be flying east to west across the county at an altitude of around 300 feet. Residents may see these aircraft conducting surveillance during the daylight hours, but spraying will only be done at night. Mr. Branch said aerial spraying is not harmful to people, pets or livestock. If you have questions, call the Liberty County Emergency Management Office at 936-334-3219.
Ag Disaster Workshop: The Texas A&M Agri-Life Extension Service will host a free Disaster Assistance Workshop Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Raywood Livestock Auction on Highway 90. Area farmers and ranchers are invited to learn about the various disaster assistance programs available to them. The free Disaster Assistance Workshop will include representatives from the Texas Department of Agriculture, Texas Farm Bureau, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, FEMA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Outdoor Expo: The free Men Alive Outdoor Expo is this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the TVE fairgrounds on FM 563 in Liberty. This family friendly event includes lunch, kids’ entertainment, exhibits and vendors, a youth BB gun tournament with parental permission, an adult archery competition, plus much more. There are also lots of door prizes and a special demonstration by a horse whisperer. It’s all free, so leave your wallets at home and bring the whole family.
