Annexation: Dayton City Council held the first round of public hearings Tuesday on the city’s property annexation plan to add another 3,200 acres to the city’s limits. The first tract is 426.5 acres south of US 90. The second is 637.7 acres on SH 146 plus another 666.5 acres near CR 686. The final tract is 1,685.8 acres located east of CR 486. Each of these areas is close - or adjacent - to the path of the Grand Parkway-I-99 through Liberty County.
National Guard: The Texas Army National Guard’s 636th Brigade Support Battalion arrived in South Liberty County following Hurricane Harvey to provide logistical support to other guard units serving throughout Southeast Texas. With their mission complete, the unit is now headed home for reassignment elsewhere. Before they left, the battalion’s leadership went throughout Liberty and Dayton presenting certificates or coins of appreciation to city leaders, county officials, local business owners and residents who made a difference during their stay.
Football: With opening weekend of the high school football season flooded out across much of Southeast Texas, area teams are ready to take the field tonight. Dayton is home today facing Nederland at 7 p.m. Liberty is on the road at Cleveland at 7:30. Hardin travels to Huntington for a 7:30 p.m. start. Hull-Daisetta is in Saratoga facing West Hardin with a 7:30 kickoff.
