Electric Rates: The rumor continues to surface from time to time that the City of Liberty’s electrical rates are the highest in the state of Texas – or sometimes the rumor says the highest in the nation - depending on whom you ask. Liberty City Manager Gary Broz said that is not true and, historically, has never been true. He said Liberty’s electrical rates are in the middle range when compared to other power agency rates. The Liberty city manager said one common mistake people make is to compare their monthly bills from the city to those from surrounding areas without remembering that Liberty combines electric, water, sewer and trash pick up into a single bill. To honestly compare the City of Liberty’s electric rates with other electricity providers in Texas, go to the state’s public utility commission website at www.powertochoose.com.
