Campus Carry: In accordance with the new Texas law allowing individuals with a concealed handgun license to carry a handgun on the campuses of all Texas public colleges and universities, Lee College will implement its new Campus Concealed Weapon Policy on Tuesday, August 1st. Please note however it is illegal for individuals to carry firearms of any kind on Liberty school property and on Dayton school property unless carried by peace officers or security personnel specifically authorized to carry by the school board. Since the property on the State Highway 146 bypass where Lee College classes are held is owned by the school district it is also illegal for individuals to carry firearms on that Lee College campus located here in Liberty. LISD New Student: Liberty ISD’s student registration for those new to the district in Pre-K through 12th grade will be held tomorrow through Thursday. It’s from 8 to 11 a.m. and then noon to 3:30 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday. Then that new student registration concludes Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. All of that takes place in the cafeteria at San Jacinto Elementary School, 1629 Grand Avenue in Liberty. Parents or guardians need their driver’s license and proof of residency along with the child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and shot records. Anyone with questions regarding registration for new or returning students in the Liberty school district may call Angela Kriegel at 936-336-7213, extension 1250.
Burnham Classic: Sponsorship's are still available for the Annual Burnham Classic Golf Tournament coming up Friday through Sunday August 4th through 6th at Liberty’s Magnolia Ridge Country Club. The Burnham Family has been sponsoring the event for 27 years. The Burnham Classic benefits Tri-County Behavioral Health Care. That non profit organization serves the children and adults with mental illness and intellectual disabilities in Liberty, Montgomery and Walker Counties.
