LISD Property Values: Liberty County Central Appraisal District has released its 2017 Certified Taxable Property Values. Chief Appraiser Lana McCarty said the 2017 Certified Taxable Value for all properties in the Liberty school district is $914,757,217 - that’s up $54.4 million from last year. Mrs. McCarty reports land values are up 12.55% in Liberty ISD while improvement values increased 4.03%. Mineral values jumped 46.7% while industrial values rose 1.11%. However, personal property values dropped 8.21% in the Liberty school district.
Brockner Honored: The Liberty County law enforcement firearms training center has been renamed the “Paul Brockner Memorial Range”. Liberty County Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said that range would not have been possible without the commitment of the late Paul Brockner. Captain DeFoor said Brockner donated both the land and his time to help build the facility. Earlier this year, Paul Brockner and his brother were riding motorcycles in Louisiana after attending the funeral of their other brother when Paul wrecked. Captain DeFoor said Mr. Brockner was on life support for almost a month before passing away in early March in a Shreveport, Louisiana hospital. Then in April, Liberty County Commissioners voted to designate the facility as the Paul Brockner Memorial Range. A dedication ceremony was held Wednesday.
