Vehicle Theft: Liberty County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help locating the thief who stole a pickup truck last Friday from Texas Timberjack Company off State Highway 59 North. Liberty County Sheriff’s Lead Investigator Deputy John Bennett said the stolen vehicle is a 2015 Dodge Ram pickup, white in color, with a black flatbed. According to Dep. Bennett, there have been thefts of three Ford pickup trucks in the last two weeks from a Ford dealer in the same general area as well as several tractors from the Splendora area, also within the last two weeks. Officials say these thefts may be related. Anyone with information on the person or persons responsible for these vehicle thefts is asked to call Liberty County Sheriff’s Office at 936-336-4500 or the Multi-County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-392-7867. Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. A surveillance photo of the suspect from Friday’s theft at Texas Timberjack Company can be viewed online at
Citizens Police Academy: This Friday is the deadline to signup for the free Citizens Police Academy that starts Monday evening, July 31. It’s sponsored by both Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader and District Attorney Logan Pickett. The 10-week class will take place on Monday nights from 6 to 9 p.m. with graduation set for September 25. Sheriff’s Captain Ken DeFoor said the Citizens Police Academy does not provide law enforcement certification. Instead, Captain DeFoor said it’s for community members who want to learn more about the functions of the sheriff’s department and district attorney’s office while becoming goodwill ambassadors to the community. Applications are available from the Liberty County Dispatchers Office at 2400 Beaumont Avenue in Liberty. For more details, call Captain Ken DeFoor at 936-334-4083.
Blood Drive: A reminder - this Thursday you can give the gift of life by donating blood. In fact, each donation of a pint of blood has the potential to save three lives. You have the opportunity to give that special gift when the City of Liberty hosts a blood drive this Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Liberty Center at City Hall. Successful donors will receive a beach towel. For more information, call April Gilliland at the City of Liberty. That number is 936-336-3684.
