Money Laundering: A Florida man is facing a Money Laundering charge following a traffic stop. Liberty Police Chief Thomas Claunch said Rodney Basil Gualderama Jr., 33, was stopped at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday for speeding on Main Street. During that stop, the Liberty police officer requested assistance from a Liberty County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. Chief Claunch said the dog alerted on the vehicle, at which time officers reportedly asked for and received consent to search the vehicle. He said officers found a metal container in a wheel well containing a small amount of marijuana. They also discovered $131,404 in a backpack inside the vehicle. Officers seized that money along with the vehicle and a 45-caliber handgun.
Sheriff on Misperception: There is a perception among some that those communities that are predominately Hispanic are responsible for a disproportionately large number of violent crimes. We recently asked Liberty Police Captain Gary Martin and Dayton Police Chief John Headrick if the Latino members of their cities committed more crimes than everyone else. Both answered “no”. Liberty County Sheriff Bobby Rader said very minor crimes like loud music or discharging firearms in celebration seem to be a little more common among the Hispanic community. However, when it comes to serious crimes, Sheriff Rader said there is no difference in the number of those committed by any specific segment of the community.
Texas Football Predictions: The Liberty Panthers football team is predicted to make another deep run in the state playoffs as the 15th ranked team in a pre-season poll for Class 4A, Division II. That assessment is according to a well-known magazine called Dave Campbell’s Texas Football. The storied periodical also projects the Dayton Broncos will advance to post-season after missing out on the playoffs last year. Texas Football is on newsstands now with its annual gridiron prognostications. KSHN FM 99.9 will have more details from the magazine’s roundup of those teams as well as other schools in Liberty and Chambers counties in coming newscasts.
